  • Scope: Interior drywall, steel studs, ceilings, acoustic systems, architectural finishes, and more
  • Scale: 25,770.8 m² across 7 levels, including over 2.6 million square feet of drywall

  • RWC Systems’ Role: Providing precision interior construction for one of Calgary’s most ambitious projects

RWC Systems is thrilled to share that we have been awarded the interior construction contract for Scotia Place, working in partnership with CANA Construction as the General Contractor — Calgary’s highly anticipated new event centre and the future home of the Calgary Flames. This landmark project represents a new era for the city’s Culture + Entertainment District, and we are honoured to contribute our expertise to a development of this scale and significance.

Scope of Work: Precision, scale, and complexity

Our team will deliver a full interior scope including:

  • Interior drywall and steel stud framing
  • Acoustic T-bar, metal, wood, and felt PET ceilings
  • Wood and acoustic wall panels
  • GFRG columns and curved coves
  • Door frames, access panels, and specialty assemblies
  • M&E, elevator, and stair shafts

In total, the project spans over 25,770.8 square metres (277,000 sq. ft.) across seven levels and includes 2.6 million square feet of drywall and tens of thousands of linear feet of steel framing. This is one of the largest single-interior scopes in RWC’s history.

Beyond the arena: A full community experience

Scotia Place isn’t just an arena — it’s a multi-purpose destination. RWC’s interior scope extends across public plazas, restaurants, bars, shops, kitchens, kiosks, gathering places, clinics, maintenance areas, and media offices. Our team is also responsible for the renovation and restoration of the Heritage Stephenson Building, a Calgary landmark being carefully integrated into the new district.

This blend of modern construction and historic restoration highlights RWC’s range: from high-performance sports and entertainment venues to heritage work requiring precision and respect for original craftsmanship.

Meeting challenges with expertise

A project of this magnitude comes with complexity. The Scotia Place build features varying wall heights, intricate ceiling systems, and a continuously evolving design process. In the early stages, many details were not yet finalized, so our preconstruction and estimating teams made informed assumptions and exercised sound professional judgment to keep progress moving forward.

We also leveraged value engineering to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or performance. Throughout the process, our estimators and project managers accounted for political and economic factors, including tariffs, while prioritizing Canadian-manufactured products wherever possible.

Building for Calgary’s future

The Scotia Place project is more than a construction milestone — it’s an investment in Calgary’s downtown core and community life. When completed, the facility will host not only professional hockey but also concerts, festivals, and community events, supported by RWC’s commitment to craftsmanship and reliability.

We’re proud to bring our experience as a leading commercial drywall contractor in Calgary to a project that will define the city’s skyline and culture for decades to come.
