RWC Systems Celebrates it’s 45th Anniversary

In 1978, a dream was starting to take shape. He might not have known it yet, but our founder, Garth Roberson, was about to embark on a journey that wasn’t merely about constructing walls and ceilings, but about shaping skylines, crafting interiors, and laying down a legacy.

Over the past 45 years, our expertise has grown, but our core values have remained steadfast: dedication to craft, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

As we stand on the threshold of our Sapphire anniversary, it’s a moment to reflect, cherish, and celebrate every project, every challenge, and every triumph. Journey with us as we walk down memory lane, exploring a timeline that spans four and a half decades of excellence, innovation, and unwavering commitment.

Join us in this nostalgic trip, as we proudly showcase our story from inception to date.

RWC Systems Awarded Contract for Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex Construction

We are thrilled to announce that RWC Systems has been entrusted with a pivotal role in the construction of the Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex, a state-of-the-art community hub set to redefine recreational experiences in Surrey.

Graham Construction, the general contractor spearheading this project, has awarded us the contract to construct the walls and ceilings of the facility.

This new sports complex is not just another building; it’s a symbol of community growth and engagement. Once complete, it will enhance Surrey’s overall ice capacity, catering to the needs of Cloverdale residents and serving broader city and sport destination needs.

The Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex is not just another project for us; it’s a testament to our commitment to community development. This venture joins the ranks of other significant public community centre projects we’ve been privileged to be a part of, including the Clayton Community Centre and the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre.

The Project generally consists of the construction of the new Cloverdale Sport and Ice Centre located at 6336 177B Street, Surrey, BC. The project includes but is not limited to the construction of a new 105,000-square-foot arena providing two NHL-sized arena sheet spaces complete with change rooms, spectator seating, meeting rooms, and supporting facilities.

Our responsibilities for the Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex encompasses the installation of Steel Stud Framing and Drywall Construction.

The steel stud and drywall scope is set to begin in Quarter 1 of 2024, with the occupancy in September 2024.

Beyond its structural features, the complex will offer a variety of programs such as ice hockey, figure skating, public lessons, skating sessions, and dry-floor summer use for sports like lacrosse and ball hockey.

Stay tuned for more updates on this project.

Capstan Way Skytrain Station update

The new Capstan Way Skytrain station will be the latest in a series of public transit projects that RWC has been a part of, and we are proud to provide an update on the progress.

The new Capstan Way Skytrain Station is designed to serve the rapidly growing Capstan Village neighbourhood. With the expectation of the community growing to 16,000 residents living in 6,000 homes within a 10-minute walking radius of the station.

As a company with a proven track record in the construction of transit stations, we are once again leveraging our expertise to add to the Canada Line’s array of Skytrain station

Our responsibility includes the construction and installation of walls and ceilings, which incorporates drywall, steel studs, taping, and the installation of the uniquely designed Nelson Panel Ceilings. The complexity and scale of this project align with our continuous efforts to innovate and deliver excellence.

The project has presented unique challenges as Skytrain operations are active and passing through the project while we are constructing the station. To navigate around this, we adopted a night shift schedule from 1:00 am – 5:00 am when the station was closed for a period of 2 months. This approach ensured minimal disruption to the station’s operations and allowed us to focus on our tasks. We are pleased to report that this phase has been successfully completed.

Safety has always been at the forefront of our operations. Given the station’s active status, we took additional measures to ensure employee safety. This included a mandatory 1-day course on Skytrain safety for every team member involved in the project. This proactive approach to safety is reflective of our commitment to both our employees and the quality of our work.

In overcoming these challenges, we have not only made substantial progress but also learnt valuable insights that will be beneficial for future projects of this nature.

Steel stud framing is 90% complete, and RWC is on target to finish the scope of our work by the end of the year.

We look forward to updating you further as we move ahead with transforming the Capstan Way Skytrain Station into a hallmark of the community.

YVR 21 Project Update

The YVR 21 project is one of our larger office and workspace projects to date, and we are proud to provide you with an update on the progress.

RWC was asked to complete the construction of the walls and ceilings for the new office of a large software and e-commerce firm. RWC Systems is directly responsible for the installation of acoustic ceilings, t-bar ceilings, steel studs, drywall, and specialty walls.

The uniqueness of the YVR21 project is the setting, as the project is nested within another one of our projects, “The Post”. “The Post” is a mid-century landmark that has undergone a significant transformation to include two modern sister towers.

The combination of old and new infrastructure presented unique challenges that we had to overcome. Working within a heritage building has required us to navigate existing structural infrastructure, a challenge that is unique to working within a heritage building. But, as with all challenges, it has offered an opportunity for innovation.

This project relied heavily on the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM). With BIM, we have been able to create a detailed 3D model of the building and conduct a “clash detection” analysis. This process identifies potential conflicts between our work and that of other trades, allowing us to mitigate issues before they arise and ensure a smooth construction process.

Our mission has always been to deliver excellence in wall and ceiling installation, and YVR 21 is no exception.

To date, the RWC Team has:

These figures are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and we are proud of the progress made so far. The progress we have made so far is only the beginning. We look forward to sharing more updates with you as we continue to transform this iconic building.
