RWC Systems Selected to Support Remote Modular Apartment Build in Mica Creek for BC Hydro Workforce

RWC Systems is proud to announce that we have been awarded the contract for drywall and ceiling work on a new modular apartment development in Mica Creek, British Columbia. This project will support housing needs for workers on an upcoming BC Hydro project and further demonstrates RWC’s ability to execute complex drywall scopes in remote locations across the province.

The project, led by general contractor PCL, involves the construction of modular apartment buildings designed to accommodate a large influx of workers. RWC’s scope of work encompasses multiple critical elements of the building envelope and interior finishes, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted partner in large-scale and logistically demanding construction initiatives.

Scope of Work

RWC’s work will span both interior and exterior systems, with a focus on functionality, safety, and fire separation in these high-occupancy structures. Our team will be responsible for:

  • Boarding and Taping of all corridors and stairwells, ensuring clean and finished surfaces throughout high-traffic areas.
  • Installation of Acoustic Ceiling Tiles (ACT) across all corridors—totaling 4,293 square feet—to provide both sound control and clean, modular aesthetics.
  • Exterior steel stud framing and boarding designed to support the perimeter soffits, providing structural support and weather resistance.
  • Supply and installation of gypsum wallboard (GWB) between levels in the corridors, which is critical for vertical fire separation.
  • Plywood framing to seal elevator openings at the crawl space and roof levels—ensuring safety and security prior to elevator installation.
  • Boarding and steel stud framing for exterior drywall assemblies at the crawl space and attic areas, offering complete enclosure for the modular structures.
  • Plywood backing in the elevator control room, to support future installation of elevator equipment and infrastructure.

In total, the project includes 35,410 square feet of drywall installation and highlights our capacity to deliver high-quality work at scale.

Experience That Travels

The remote nature of Mica Creek makes this project a strong example of RWC’s ability to mobilize skilled teams and manage materials efficiently, even in hard-to-access locations. As with previous projects in outlying areas, our field teams are prepared to meet logistical challenges head-on while maintaining the same high level of execution our clients expect in urban environments.

The modular construction approach adds another layer of coordination to the project. RWC brings experience working within these tight schedules and prefabricated construction methods, which often require just-in-time execution to keep up with fast-moving build cycles.

A Trusted Partner in Drywall Execution

Our continued partnership with PCL and selection for this project reinforces our reputation in the market as a go-to subcontractor for high-stakes, technically demanding drywall and ceiling scopes. With a wide portfolio that spans transportation, health care, retail, and residential projects—including modular and remote builds—RWC continues to prove our adaptability and reliability.

As construction progresses in Mica Creek, we’re excited to contribute to a project that plays a key role in supporting BC Hydro’s workforce needs. It’s another opportunity for our teams to show what they do best: deliver quality, safety, and precision on every job site—no matter where it is.
